Update on Lauen Dombrowski: she had four rounds of chemo, her treatment consisted of 1 week in the hospital 2 weeks off for 4 months. Her treatment ended in Jan. with her AFP levels at 4.5. Now, 3 months later they are back up to 13.5.......more CT scans and blood work in 2 weeks to see if she will need additional chemo.

Michael,
I just wanted to send a thank-you for all that you did for me during my pregnancy with Katelyn-Jade. Elijah's story has inspired me so much and I am thankful that you are so willing to share & help others. When people are curious about SCTs I usually send them to this website! I hope Elijah is well & I trust that he's a very busy 2-year old now!
Much love to you & yours,
Jade & Katelyn

Lauren's CT remain clear but her AFP's have been rising. We are supposed to start chemo on Oct.25th. Does anyone have any info on things that can effect AFP levels (infections etc.)

My grand daughter was born 9/30/05 with an SCT, her's was much smaller and totally enclosed. She was also born with pneumonia. They airlifted her from the mid-Michigan hospital she was born in to U of M in Ann Arbor MI.When she was 4 days old she had her surgery, it went real well, none of her internal organ were affected by the tumor. She's still in the hospital, but is supposed to be released today or tomorrow. I haven't gotten to hold her yet and that's the one thing I'm looking forward to the mostů

I appreciated your story. I have a patient who we found out "may" have a SCT on a recent 18 week US. I was looking for a little info and ran across your site. Thanks

My son was born 8/29/79 with a sacrococcygeal teratoma (about 3 1/2 lbs). It was attached to the area of Elijah's but it was also internal. He was paralyzed for months from the surgery. We did not know whether he would be normal because of the time spent in the birth canal. We are blessed to have a son who is 26 years old. He has a normal life of walking, working & driving like most men his age. God has been truly gracious.
